Founder's Story

A few years ago I was sitting around one morning and thinking about how we give. People from all walks of life give regularly to their favorite causes, but what about companies, do they give?

Meet the Team!

Kevin Mullins

Executive Director

Kevin started rock bands and pastored churches in various parts of the country before helping found Community Plates in 2011. He is a professional musician, loves public speaking and leadership and working with and helping people more than anything. He was inspired on his journey to becoming consumed with American hunger by his children, who joined with their friends at school, pooling their lunches to send home food for dinner for other friends in need. Kevin and his family live in Norwalk, CT.

Jeff Schacher

Jeff is the founder and CEO of WhenToManage, a cloud-based enterprise application platform for restaurants and retail. Jeff started in NYC as a failed Broadway actor by day and a semi-successful waiter at night. He left restaurants during the first dot-com craze and joined the IT department at a media company. After many years designing and building enterprise software, he decided to bring his new love of business & technology back to the restaurant industry and started WhenToManage. Today, WhenToManage is used by hundreds of restaurant companies large and small.

Melissa Spiesman

National Site Director

Being in the kitchen is therapeutic for me (and way cheaper than actual therapy). I like good food, and I especially like to share good food with good people. That is one of the reasons why I fell in love with Community Plates. My background is in both hospitality and nutrition, and my involvement in CP brings out the best of both. I’m especially drawn to the real impact I can have in ending U.S. food-insecurity through the Community Plates platform.

I live in Stamford with my husband and 2 daughters. Together we spend time engaging in a healthy lifestyle...and are fueled by health, exercise, travel, the outdoors, and of course food!!

Board Members

Stephanie Webster

Editor in Chief & Founder, CT Bites

In some ways, Stephanie has been preparing for her current role at CTbites her whole life. Born and raised in NYC by parents who design restaurants for a living, she developed a passion for finding out of the way gems during weekly trips to the depths of Chinatown and frequent trips abroad.

Professionally, she began her career as a photo editor in the magazine industry and then migrated to the world of new media consulting and web site building during the first dot-com wave in NYC. She led strategy, brand development, site architecture and content development assignments for top consumer brands. A 7-year excursion to Seattle exposed her to a casual yet innovative approach to food that hadn't yet made it to the East Coast. When she relocated back to CT, she made it her quest to find great food, and support a community of eaters that live for their next meal.
